The Most Overused Word Ever (And Why We Need to Retire It Already… Please!)

What is a word you feel that too many people use?

You know there are some words that feel like they’ve taken a permanent VIP pass into every conversation? Words that people use so much, they’ve lost their original meaning?
Well, let’s talk about that word.

Let’s say your friend says:

> “Bro, this biryani is literally fire!” 🔥

First of all… fire? Are we eating or calling the fire brigade? And “literally”? Congratulations, you’ve just abused the English language.

Or how about “OMG, I’m dead!” — used when someone sends you a mildly funny cat meme.
No one died. No funeral. Just an overdramatic response to a kitten wearing sunglasses.

And then there’s “vibes”.
Every party has “good vibes”. Every Monday morning has “bad vibes”. And somehow, your neighbor’s cat sitting on a wall is also “giving vibes”.
If words had a union, “vibes” would be screaming for paid leave by now.

The Side Effects of Overusing Words

People stop believing you.
If you say “this is the best thing ever” every single day, guess what? Nothing you say will ever be best again. (Sad trombone music.)

You sound like you’re on an Instagram reel all the time.
Life is not an influencer campaign, Aunty. Relax.

“When you say ‘I’m just vibing’… but the vibes are on fire!” 🔥😂

Words We Need to Put in the Fridge for a While

1. Literally – unless you really mean literally.

2. Iconic – your tea cup is not iconic, Shazia.

3. Obsessed – you’re not obsessed, you just like it a lot.

4. Slay – you’re wearing a nice shirt, not conquering kingdoms.

The Challenge

Try going one whole day without saying that one word you overuse. Watch how your brain struggles, twitches, and tries to sneak it in. Bonus points if your friends notice and say,

> “Wow… new vibes.”

And you can proudly reply,

> “Don’t say vibes.”

Moral of the story

Words are like biryani masala — use too much, and the whole thing becomes unbearable. Keep it fresh, keep it tasty.
